Microalga-Bacteria Consortia

The research line aims to study the interaction between microalgae and bacteria from biochemical, physiological, and molecular approaches to elucidate mechanisms that intervene and modulate the mutualistic association. The ultimate purpose of this research line is the development of biotechnological production systems.

Research areas:

  1. Fundamental science studies on the interaction between microalgae and plant growth-promoting bacteria.
  2. Use of microalgae-bacteria consortia for wastewater treatment and to enhance assimilation and recycling of nutrients generated in production systems.
  3. Use of microalgae-bacteria consortia to increase eco-efficiency in agricultural and agro-aquacultural systems.
